Solomon Airlines are to reduce the fuel surcharge by US$40 on a round trip between the Solomon’s capital Honiara and Brisbane in Australia. We recently reported that Solomon Airlines were the only scheduled carrier operating on the route due to the withdrawal of Sky West Airlines. (See news 25 Feb). It is good to see that Solomon Airlines are not taking advantage of their monopoly situation on the route and are doing the right thing and passing on savings due to lower fuel prices to their passengers. Well done Solomon Airlines.

This reduction however will only apply to the Brisbane route as Solomon Airlines intend to maintain the current surcharges on Domestic and Regional routes for a further month when a further review of fuel prices will take place. At that time a decision will be made on whether to reduce surcharges on these routes or not. "The reductions will take place almost immediately and if fuel costs remained relatively steady, a further decrease may be possible" an airline spokesperson.
